The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s new exhibit, “Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code” opens to the public on Friday, June 14th. Years in the making, this interactive, technology-driven exhibit will highlight advances and challenges in genetics and medicine. It also will focus on the ethical, legal and social issues that have bubbled to the surface as learning about our DNA has become less expensive and more widely available. As far as the hands-on, interactive exhibits, the NHGRI has a list of events and projects in development (pgEd is especially curious about the theater project!) – but pgEd will have something there as well! Ting Wu will be in Washington, DC this week for the opening of the exhibit. We will have several stations open for people to pin themselves on our worldwide map – Map-Ed! With over 1000 players in the first few weeks, we are thrilled to get to share this game and its great educational content with a wider audience! As always, the exhibit will be free and open to the public. Looks like a great thing to do with learners of all ages!
